Delta 8: Facts vs Myths

In CBD by jane gonzales

If you’ve been a consumer of premium hemp products, you’ve probably heard about Delta-8 which rose to popularity in 2021. While the use of CBD and other hemp products is federally legal and it has become easier to obtain them from the market, there are still a lot of misconceptions about these products that make potential consumers wary of trying them.

In this article, we’re gonna bust some of those myths about Delta-8 products.

What is Delta-8?

Similar to CBD, Delta 8 THC (also known as Delta-8 or d8) is a naturally occurring cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant.

Myth: Delta 8 is a new cannabinoid

Fact: While D8 only became popular in 2021, it was actually discovered way back in 1974 by “The Father of Cannabis”, Dr. Raphael Mechoulam, known as “The Father of Cannabis,”. CBD and Delta 9 were also discovered in this lab years prior in 1964 and 1965, respectively.

Myth: Use and possession of Delta-8 is illegal

Fact: The approval of the 2018 Farm Bill legalized the farming, production, and use of hemp or cannabis as long as it only contains less than 0.3% THC. This means CBD and Delta 8, including d8 hemp cigar, are federally legal as long as it is made from hemp and the level of THC does not exceed 0 3%.

While it is federally legal, there are some states where it is considered illegal and is still heavily regulated. Hence, you need to be mindful of the laws in your state or the state you are visiting to avoid any inconveniences.

Myth: D8 is synthetic

Fact: Delta 8 is produced by a naturally occurring process. Hence, it is not considered synthetic. The process that occurs in laboratories only speeds up the existing natural processes by creating the perfect environment for the reaction to occur.

Myth: Delta 8 won’t cause you to fail a drug test

Fact: If you are scheduled to take a drug test, it is strongly advised that you avoid ingesting Delta 8 for at least 30 days (depending on what type of test). At the moment there are currently no tests conducted to only find or detect the presence or trace amounts of CBD and Delta 8. These tests usually look for THC in a blood test and are not able to differentiate between Delta 8 and Delta 9.

If you are only using a certain dose of CBD products that contain 0 to 0.3% THC, you don’t have to worry about raising any red flags during the test. However, it may not be applicable for Delta 8 and might still fail the test. In this case, you may be required to retake the test or consult a physician for further testing. In a worst-case scenario, you may need to have the product tested to make sure that its contents are the same as what is advertised.

Myth: You can take Delta 8 on your flight.

Fact: This depends on where you are going. As mentioned above, it is federally legal in the United States so you may be able to carry it with you. However, if you are going to another state or country where D8 is illegal, consider leaving your stash at home to avoid inconveniences at the airport. You may also contact the airline if they will allow it just to be sure.

Myth: There are no dangers in consuming/ingesting Delta 8

Fact: Even the healthiest food and drink can have negative effects if not taken in moderation. While using Delta 8 has no adverse side effects, each person may experience different effects. Even if you are taking delta 8 gummies, you must be mindful of the amount you consume to fully enjoy its benefits. Consuming too much or anything in excess of the recommended dose causes you to feel unwell.

No matter what reasons you may have for trying premium hemp, keep in mind that certain ingredients interact differently with other substances that are used to make food and medicines. If you are currently taking medication to treat a certain medical condition, you must exercise caution to lessen the risk of experiencing any negative effects on your current treatment. When possible, consult your doctor or physician about how delta 8 might affect your treatment. Even if they cannot prescribe the use of CBD and delta 8, they might be able to explain how it interacts with certain ingredients in your prescribed medication.

Even if it makes you feel better, please enjoy our products in moderation and always follow the dose and instructions on the label. This way, you will know that you are taking a safe and beneficial amount. As mentioned above, it is important to consult your doctor about its effects when ingested while you are taking other drugs to treat a certain medical condition.
